How do I get hired by your department to become a firefighter/EMT?
The application process begins with you. You must have the desire to help others, and the passion to incorporate that desire into a career. The minimum requirements to submit an application to this Department are as follows:
- Have a high school diploma or GED at the time of application
- Be age 18 or older at the time of application
- Drug free for 12 months, Marijuana or other THC containing products 90-days free at time of application and throughout hiring process
- Possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license at the time of application and at all times during employment in the uniformed service
- Eligible for Virginia EMS certification as set forth by the VA OEMS https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/content/uploads/sites/23/2016/05/Policy.pdf
- United States Citizen or have an appropriate permit to work in the United States issued by the U.S. Department of Justice or U.S. Department of Labor.
- Note: Illegal drugs use during the last twelve months, and/or two or more moving traffic violations during the last twelve months will disqualify you from further consideration.
